Gender? I Hardly Know 'Er!
My heavily-AU fictotype Danny Fenton realized he was a transboy (not nonbinary or anything, just a man) with he/him pronouns at age 13. In my current lifetime's body as Aphelion, or Leon for short, I am transmasc and xenogender, also with he/him pronouns. My subconscious' insistence that I should headcanon Danny as a transgender person since I was in high school or so (I am gonna be 30 in this month of June 2026, on the 22nd) finally hit me fully when I was in my mid-twenties, causing me to realize and come to terms with the fact I myself am trans, too. Not just "possibly," but more like "holy shit how did I not know this about Me sooner, what the fuck…" It was so obvious in retrospect. The textbook pipeline I went through during my childhood, adolescence and then early adulthood. The persistent habit of creating protagonist characters who are shapeshifters and-or trans…I was so unbelievably dense, for so very long.
My xenogender is simply feline, as in, the Felidae family of the order Carnivora. No human concepts tied in. Absolutely none. There are no gender roles as there are in human cultures, only instincts based on which sexual organs they are born with, and I am all felines, so I have all their instincts on the back-burner of my braincase at all times. There are physically intersex and dual-sexed felines too, I've seen reports of them, and I am them as well. (I sort of am a suntherian in the sense that my felinity is just an ingrained part of my personality, yet, also, it "flares up" sometimes much more strongly than usual. I try to trim down the amount of labels I use as much as I can, but it's really hard. Microlabeling seems like such fun until it quite literally bloats the community beyond repair.)
My daemon Bryoria is fully nonbinary, though externally masc-presenting, with he/they pronouns. It took him till like last year to come to this understanding. All my self-insert parallel life selves (which I put in a different category than my singular Danny fictotype) have their own variation of Bryoria as their own daemon, whose name does not change no matter what else does. A remnant of their past lifetimes as Me. And then there's Danny, who doesn't have any memories of being Me, ever, which is why he is a complete fictotype and not a parallel in my mind's definitions. His daemon's name is Comet, has been since they were around 5 years old, and it wasn't until they were in their early 20s (post Ghost Ruler ascension, post The Ultimate Enemy timeline-self permanent fusion, and post Comet "settling in form" as a large phantom black "livestock guardian-esque" dog) that Comet tenatively stopped IDing as male as Danny pretty much always has, instead opting to try femininity, with she/her pronouns. It sticks!
Daemons can be different genders than their other-half. I mean, duh. Look at Bry and me, after all. My other headmates have gender IDs too, of course. Saralee, a female pokémon (luxray evo-stage/species), pronouns: she/her, or it/its. Beethoven, a Saint Bernard dog (cismale, he/him). Spite, a Marvel Comics symbiote OC from planet Klyntar (gender-neutral, zie/zem/zier/zemself). Lunaria, a maned lioness (transfem, she/her). Sunburst, a Siberian tiger…tigress? (They/she; they're still debating with themself on their gender ID). And then lastly Suellen, a legless/armless winged dragoness (she/her; she is our newest headmate, thus she is still in-development, so she doesn't know what gender label or labels she wants to use yet).
